I was able to survive easily with light armor, the first two spells in the Bone Lord and Bone Tyrant lines, and light and heavy attacks with a destruction staff. Necromancer gameplay doesn’t feel unique at the early levels but if you enjoy playing a mobile damage dealer, it’s a fun class to play. However, corpses become central to the Necromancer’s gameplay once you have the tethering skills. You can’t do anything with these corpses until you reach skill rank 20 when they can be consumed to boost damage or healing. You may not notice, and you won’t much care that several of the Necromancer’s beginning spells leave a corpse behind when they expire. The spells have undead themes but there’s only a cosmetic difference between launching blue flaming skulls and red flaming fireballs at your enemies. You have ranged damage spells, armor and healing spells, and a melee attack that heals.

Necromancers can also make use of all armor types depending on their build. Necromancers are primarily a Magicka class although Stamina Necromancers can be built by morphing the main damage spells in the Bone Lord line. The last skill in the Living Death line is a tether that heals both the caster and allies along the length of the tether. Enemies near the corpse and between the corpse and the Necromancer incur damage as the player moves and sweeps the tether across the battlefield. The final skill in the Bone Lord line is a spell that does area of effect damage by tethering the Necromancer to a corpse. At higher levels, the class can become very powerful as the focus narrows to one or two skill lines.Īll of the skill lines revolve around creating and using corpses in one way or another. Mixing across the skill lines gives Necromancers good survivability in the early game when they’re relatively weak. Much like the Warden, the Necromancer is a flexible class with skill lines specialized for damage (Bone Lord), tanking (Bone Tyrant) and Healing (Living Death).
